Today we're launching one of the most-requested features since ProfitAnalyze went live: real-time profit alerts.
The idea is simple. You set a margin threshold — say, 20% net profit margin on any given product or channel. If your live data drops below that threshold, we notify you immediately. No more discovering at month-end that a campaign ran unprofitably for three weeks. No more finding out in a quarterly review that a product's COGS increase quietly eroded your margins months ago.
Why This Matters More Than You Might Think
Margin problems in e-commerce are almost never sudden. They compound. A supplier raises prices by 8%. You don't update your COGS. Your profit calculations are now wrong, but your dashboard still looks fine because revenue is up. Two months later, you've shipped 2,000 orders at a margin that's 6 points lower than you thought. You've "lost" $18,000 in profit you thought you were making.
Or: your Meta ad costs spike during a busy season — CPMs double, your ROAS drops from 4.2x to 2.1x, and you're now below your breakeven ROAS for three of your five campaigns. But since your total revenue is still rising (you're spending more), the dashboard signal is ambiguous. You don't know you're bleeding until it's too late to respond quickly.
Profit alerts create a tripwire. Instead of passively monitoring dashboards, you get an active signal the moment something moves against you.
What Alerts Look Like

How to Set Up Your First Alert
Alerts can be configured at three levels, giving you control over how granular your monitoring is:
📦 Product-level alerts
Get notified when the net margin on a specific product drops below your target. Useful for flagging COGS changes or shipping cost spikes on specific SKUs.
📣 Channel-level alerts
Monitor the profitability of each advertising channel. Set different thresholds for Meta, Google, and other channels based on their expected efficiency.
📊 Store-wide alerts
A blended alert across all products and channels. Your overall business health signal — the first metric to check every morning.
🔔 Delivery options
Choose email, Slack, or in-app notifications. Set quiet hours so you're not woken up by overnight alerts that can wait until morning.
What We Recommend as Starting Thresholds
If you're not sure where to start, here are sensible defaults based on typical Shopify store economics:
- Store-wide net margin alert: Set at 5% below your current average. If your store runs at 25% net margin, alert at 20%.
- Product-level alert: Set at your COGS ratio + fixed costs. Any product below this is selling at a loss.
- Channel-level alert: Set at your breakeven ROAS margin equivalent for each channel. Calculate breakeven ROAS (1 ÷ net margin before ad costs) and alert when you fall below it.
Available to All Plans Starting Today
Real-time profit alerts are available on all ProfitAnalyze plans — Growth and Pro — starting today. If you're already a customer, you'll see the new Alerts section in your dashboard sidebar. If you're not yet using ProfitAnalyze, this is a great time to start your free trial.
We built this feature because the hardest part of running a profitable store isn't knowing what to measure — it's knowing when something has gone wrong fast enough to do something about it. Profit alerts are our answer to that problem.
As always, we'd love your feedback. Reply to your welcome email or reach out at support@profitanalyze.com.
